Jesus is Still Praying

READ

Romans 8:31-34

CONSIDER

Jesus doesn’t only pray for the disciples around the table at the Last Supper. He says right at the top of that prayer that he’s also speaking to God about all who would believe in him through the message of his disciples. That means everything we’ve looked at for the past several weeks applies to all Jesus followers over all time and all who will come between now and Jesus’ return.

What’s also amazing is that Jesus’ prayers haven’t stopped. When he returned to the presence of his Heavenly Father, Jesus returned to his place at the seat of honor beside God in heaven. From there, he is pleading for us. Some translations say he is interceding for us.

That means when we miss the mark or rebel against God, and still deserve the consequences associated with that sin, Jesus continues to talk to God for us...and talking to God is what we label “prayer.”

REFLECT

Jesus prays for you today. He prays for your protection, for unity, for you to be filled, to be sanctified. He brings his prayer requests to God just like we do.

This is an amazing thing to consider. It’s not that Jesus prayed for you once, it’s that he prays for you all the time. He will keep praying for you until those prayers are no longer needed because you have been made new and are worshiping in the physical presence of God forever.

We want this kind of intercession to be available for everyone. That’s also what God wants. This is part of why it’s so important to tell people about Jesus. They need his prayers. They need his intercession. Just like we all do.

PRAY

Jesus, thank you for interceding on my behalf. Thank you for making a way to fill me, to see me, to know me, and to advocate for me with the Father. Amen.
