Persistent Peace

CONSIDER
Jesus returns a third time and prays, as Matthew writes, "the same thing."

Jesus repeats his prayer three times. Does that mean God doesn’t hear him? Does it mean Jesus doesn’t trust his Heavenly Father when God says, “No.”

It does not.

This persistence reflects a holy desire. In the Bible, the number three represents holiness, perfection, completion. It’s as though Jesus is making absolutely sure he hears his Father correctly because he wants to follow God’s will perfectly.

Jesus repeats His prayer not because He lacks faith, but because He stays in the Father's presence until the peace of surrender is complete. This third prayer represents the final laying down of any remaining hesitation.

REFLECT
Resistance to God’s lead often reveals a life not yet fully laid down before the Lord. It is a life still clinging to the flesh in some way.

Look honestly at the areas where you still resist when God says, "no." Imagine the peace that comes with complete surrender and let God take that hesitation away.

PRAY
Father, thank you for staying with me in the struggle. Keep drawing me into prayer until my will finally aligns completely with Yours. Amen.
