The Struggle of Surrender

CONSIDER
Jesus falls on His face and asks for a way out. This moment brings human choice face-to-face with the need for grace.

We possess the God-given ability to choose, and here Jesus makes the hardest choice of all. He asks for the cup to pass, but then He speaks the most difficult words a human can utter: "Yet not as I will, but as you will."

Surrender is both a crisis moment and a journey of growing in our relationship with Jesus. This is why surrender is at the core of the Christian life.

Those who follow Jesus are continually lay down our own plans to take up the purposes of God. Following Jesus is a lot easier when the destination matches your desires. The real test of a holy heart comes when God asks you to go where you would never choose to go yourself.

REFLECT
Is there any part of your life where you still put yourself ahead of Jesus

Have you asked God something multiple times because you are resisting his will?

Are you asking multiple times for affirmation and perfect obedience?

The difference is not subtle. It’s significant.

PRAY
Father, I lay down my plans today. Move me past my plans so I can embrace Your purpose. Amen.
