The Tent and the Temple

READ
1 Chronicles 17:1-6
CONSIDER
David is finally settled in a beautiful palace. Looking around at his luxury, he feels guilty that the symbol of God’s presence—the Ark—is still sitting in a simple tent. He decides he’s going to do God a favor and build Him a massive, permanent temple. But God says, “No!” In essence, He tells David, “I never asked for a palace. I’ve been perfectly happy traveling in a tent, moving wherever my people move."
It’s easy to think we need to "clean up our act" or build a perfect, "palace-like" life before God will really settle down with us. But the heart of the Bible is that God is already on the move. Before you even thought about Him, He was already pursuing you.
He isn't waiting for you to become perfect; He meets you in the "tents" of your life—the temporary jobs, the messy relationships, and the unfinished projects. God doesn’t want a monument; He wants a walking partner.
REFLECT
God isn’t distant. He’s not hanging out in a building. He doesn’t have a home address, a zip code, or even a country. He’s everywhere!
Living a godly life isn’t about trying to go to where God is, it’s about nurturing a constant, daily connection with the God who is right there in the middle of your normal, humble, seemingly ordinary (tent-like) routine.
PRAY
Lord, thank You for not waiting for me to get my life together before loving me. Thank you for being with me wherever I go. Help me to see You working in my life today, right where I am. Amen.
