More Than Acknowledgment

John 3:16
CONSIDER
We all know this verse. We see it on billboards and bumper stickers. "For God so loved the world..." But let’s be clear about what’s happening here. God didn't wait for the world to get its act together. He moved first. He gave His best—His Son—because He loves the whole world. That includes you, and it includes the neighbor you struggle to get along with.
But then there’s that word: believes. "Whoever believes in him..." In our culture, we think believing is just intellectual acknowledgment. Like believing the sky is blue. But the biblical word for believe is tied to trust. It literally means to put your full weight on Him.
It’s not just nodding your head at Jesus; it’s clinging to Him as your only hope. It’s deciding that His way is the only way that leads to life.
REFLECT
We hold to the idea that this offer is for everyone—"whoever believes in him." God’s grace goes before us, inviting us in. But we have to respond. We have to choose to put our full weight on Him. In what ways are you still holding on to your own life? What do you need to let go of so you can put your full weight on Jesus?
PRAY
Jesus, I don’t just agree with You; I trust You. I’m putting my full weight on Your love today. Thank You for making a way for me when I couldn’t save myself. Amen.
