The Logic of Trust

READ
Proverbs 3:5-8

CONSIDER
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart..." We like that part. But the next part is harder: "...and lean not on your own understanding." We love our own understanding. We love to have a "better idea." We look at a situation and think, "God, that doesn't make sense, so I’m going to do it my way."

But remember, obedience is born out of trust. If you only obey God when it makes sense to you, you aren't obeying Him; you’re agreeing with Him. There’s a difference. Solomon says to acknowledge Him in all your ways.

That means asking God for input on your finances, your family, your job, and your worries. It means admitting that He sees the full picture and you don’t. When we stop leaning on our own limited logic and start leaning on His eternal wisdom, that’s when we find the path made straight.

REFLECT
To be sanctified means to be set apart. Different from the world around you that doesn’t know God, that doesn’t depend on God. Set apart from a world that emphasizes the value in “doing it yourself.”

A sanctified life is a dependent life. We don’t graduate from needing God. In fact, the closer we get to Him, the more we realize we can’t take a single step without Him.

In what areas of your life are you dependent on God? In what areas are you still dependent on yourself?

PRAY
God, my understanding is limited, but Yours is infinite. I’m not going to lean on my own cleverness today. I acknowledge You in everything. Show me the way, and I will walk in it. Amen.
