Glimpses of Glory

READ
CONSIDER
Moses went to the top of Mount Sinai to be with God and receive the 10 Commandments. This wasn’t a Zoom meeting, a conference call, or a day-long seminar. It wasn’t a weekend conference or even a week-long retreat. Moses was with God for forty days.
Spending all that time in God’s presence left a mark. Literally. The radiance of God’s glory stuck to Moses so much that he had to cover his face with a veil as he came down the mountain because the light shining off of him was blinding the Israelites.
Because Jesus is God and the fullness of God dwells in him, the glory of Jesus is just as powerful. Yet, like we read yesterday, it wasn’t visible to his disciples. If it was, he would not be fully human – you know, since human beings don’t radiate divine glory.
Yet, like Moses, in a manner of speaking, we can radiate God’s glory. With us, though, the glory doesn’t look like God the Father. It looks like God the Son.
REFLECT
What is the glory of Jesus on earth? Look at what he did as fully God and fully man. He welcomed the stranger, fed the hungry, comforted the mourning, touched the “untouchable,” healed the sick and diseased, raised the dead, showed compassion again and again, taught truth, confronted injustice, and so much more.
The best way to prepare to enter Jesus’ glory when you die is to apprentice under him now. Look to your Master. As Eugene Peterson puts it, “learn the unforced rhythms of grace.” Literally, do what Jesus did. As you do, you will see glimpses of his glory...and so will others.
PRAY
Jesus, my Master, make me curious, courageous, and consistent. I want to follow so close to you that I am covered by the dust of your feet. I want to become a person who leads people through you and to you. Amen.
