DISCIPLE

LISTEN. ENGAGE. ABIDE. DISCIPLE.

Compassionate ministries
as discipleship

A disciple is someone who learns, practices, and reproduces The Way of Jesus and that includes caring for the poor, outcast, young, sick, disabled, outsider, and more.

Compassionate Ministries is what we, in the Church of the Nazarene, call our ministry to those our culture would consider the lost, the last, and the least.

Learning, practicing, and reproducing the Way can, does, and should happen in personal conversations and in groups that include other believers. BUT, it can, does, and should also happen as you are doing the work of a disciple in Jesus' name - that is, in his manner, in his spirit, in his Way.

To do this, we are getting out of the church building and into the city. Make no mistake, this is more than serving. It's knowing and loving our neighbors as we embrace opportunities to listen, engage, abide, and disciple them through Jesus in the hope that we can, someday,
LEAD them to Jesus.

Home Churches

Home Churches

Early disciples gathered in each others' homes to read the scriptures, pray, and share a meal. Those smaller church expressions all came together for regular connection and celebration.

A disciple is someone who learns, practices, and reproduces The Way of Jesus. Sometimes, making a disciple happens best through Compassionate Ministries.

Sometimes, though, making a disciple should happen in groups of 12 or less.
Both of these are biblical. Both are beautiful. Both are possible.

In the coming year, we will begin launching home churches, which are small gatherings in people's homes that emphasize reading and talking about the Bible, praying, and supporting one another much like we see in Acts 2:42-47.

We're so early in implementing this "model" that Pastor James is still dreaming about it. Want to dream with him? Ask questions? Learn more? Let's talk.
