Missionaries

READ

John 17:1-5, John 17:18-19

CONSIDER

Jesus' sacrifice is sufficient to open up eternal life, which is not about living forever but is actually knowing God intimately. The word “know” speaks to an intimate, personal, experiential understanding. Like you know your spouse, your kids, your absolute best friends. THAT is eternal life.

So, Jesus sanctified himself (He’s God so he can do that) so you could KNOW God and to know God is to love people and to love people is to tell them the same true message that changed your life so they can be saved and sanctified too.

REFLECT

We are saved and sanctified so we can serve as missionaries. When Jesus says, “go and make disciples,” he is literally commissioning his followers – setting them on mission – sending them as missionaries with his message.

Salvation and sanctification are gifts of grace given by faith so we can continue Jesus’ work. We must steward them well. In fact, we will be held to account for that e=very thing. When Jesus returns, we will kneel before the judgement seat and give an account for how we fulfilled this call.

PRAY

Father God, I know this is serious stuff. I want to hear “well done good and faithful servant” some day. Find me faithful. Show me how to steward your commission well. Make me a mighty missionary for your kingdom. Amen.
