CONSIDER
So, what does Jesus want? He wants his disciples to be with him when he returns to the Father. That’s great news, because we want to be with him! Part of the reason why has got to be simply because he loves us, but there’s more. Did you catch the reason he gives in today’s verse? It’s so we can see the glory God the Father gave Jesus before the world began.
We understand Jesus as God’s son because he was born of a human mother and the Spirit of God. The fullness of God was pleased to dwell in Jesus means Jesus is fully God. Being conceived and developed in, then delivered by, a woman also makes him fully human.
That means the fullness of God’s glory was in Jesus but was not visible to his disciples as he walked this earth. Because he loves his disciples, Jesus wants them to be with him in his pure, full, eternal form.
REFLECT
When we talk about being with Jesus forever, how often do we focus on why Jesus wants that? Honestly, in all my years as a Jesus follower, I have never heard a single person talk about why Jesus wants us with him forever. Not once. The crazy thing is we refer to being with him forever as “entering glory.” Why don’t we stop to consider that Jesus wants us to enter his glory, not for what we get out of it, but because that’s a next-level way for him to be able to fully dwell with us?!
When we consider not what we get out of forever with Jesus, but what he gets out of it – that shifts our perspective! It actually means what we do now has the potential to bless Jesus in eternity!
PRAY
Lord Jesus, I want to see you in your glory. I want to bless you. Lead me in the way everlasting and bless me with everything I need so I can be part of you getting what you want! Amen.
